Offense-Defense Sports has announced today that accomplished former NFL wide receiver Willis “Jake” Reed has joined the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl coaching staff as a wide receiver’s coach. Mr. Reed, selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the 3rd round of the 1991 NFL Draft out of Grambling State University, played for both the Vikings and New Orleans Saints over his successful 12-year campaign. At the conclusion of his career in 2002, Mr. Reed amassed 450 career receptions totaling 6,999 yards and scoring 36 touchdowns.
“We’re thrilled to have a coach of Jake’s caliber and experience as a stellar presence on an already fantastic staff,” remarked Offense-Defense All-American Bowl Director Matt Whittier, “His dedication to excellence and insistence on playing the game the right way, we feel, meshes nicely with our past and current standards of instructional excellence and quality. We can’t be any happier with Mr. Reed’s inclusion with our event.”
The Offense-Defense All-American Bowl will feature 88 of the finest high school football players from across the United States on January 4th, 2008 at Orange Bowl Stadium in Miami, FL. The teams will be divided into East and West squads, both coached by a cadre of the most qualified personnel available including Reed and legendary ex-NFL wide receiver and current HBO football analyst and Cris Carter. The game will be broadcast live nationwide by Fox College Sports.
Last year’s inaugural event was a hard-hitting affair that saw Team East come away with a hard-fought 28-14 victory over the West squad. Current Florida Gator backup quarterback and star in the making Cameron Newton walked away with MVP honors in the contest which featured a bevy of players who are currently making their mark in the NCAA Division-I ranks.
